Benedikt Hipp, Ceramic Fencepost Imprints

These ancient and modern ceramic imprints are lifted from the fissures and cracks of the defunct rotten fenceposts that once demarcated a bygone territory on the artists homestead in Bavaria, Germany. Traces of a human face emerged by chance, after being fired in the furnace of Hipp’s homemade kiln. Each of the family of twelve serves as a marker, like the geological fingerprints of a forgotten tribe, mapping a new and invisible path, across borders and into the future.
