The ‘Jackfires’ are an off-shoot of Shane Bradford’s ‘Conflagrations’, a series of scaled-down bonfires that zoom in on the micro-drama of paint. Straddling the gap between painting and sculpture, the Conflagrations demonstrate a new twist on Bradford’s famous dipping method as well as a painterly penchant for abstract narratives. The United Kingdom is our subject – just as we are its subjects. Welcome to the precarious state of the Union!
